New Year's Wishes
For Good Riddance Day, people can write down all the bad things from the previous year and have them ripped to bits in an industrial shredder.
And for the Wishing Wall, the alliance has asked people to write their wishes for the new year on pieces of confetti, which will be released at the stroke of midnight.
You can also submit your New Year's wishes online.

World Trade Center High Wire Act
Back on August 7th, 1974 - before the Twin Towers were completed - French high wire artist Philippe Petit rigged a tightrope between the towers and danced 1,350 feet in the air, without a net. This clip from the Ric Burns series New York: A Documentary, tells the amazing story.

Three MC's and One DJ
Just got back from the Beastie Boys show at Central Park Summerstage. So, how could I not post some Beasties?? Below are a bunch of the band's television performances over the last 20 years. They always manage to keep their shows just a little extra special...
"Intergalactic", performed at Wembley Stadium as part of the Live Earth festival, on July 7th, 2007.
"Three MC's and One DJ" & "So Whatcha Want", live on The Late Show with David Letterman, on February 8th, 2006, while promoting their film Amesome! I Fucking Shot That! Features footage shot by cast and audience members.
"Ch-Ch-Check It Out", live on The Late Show with David Letterman and the streets of Manhattan in 2004. This is probably one of the coolest musical performances ever on the Letterman show, and is a clear favorite for fans.
"Sabotage/Radio Radio", performed with Elvis Costello on lead vocals for the Saturday Night Live 25th Anniversary Special, on September 26th, 1999.
"Sure Shot", from the December 10th, 1994 episode of Saturday Night Live. (Listen carefully - Adrock says "fuck" on live TV.)
"Flute Loop", "Heart Attack Man" & "Sabotage", live at the Glastonbury Music Festival in 1994.
"Live at PJs", on Late Night with David Letterman in 1992.
"Fight for Your Right", live on The Late Show with Joan Rivers in 1987.
"Fight for Your Right", live on Japanese TV in 1987, complete with rude behavior, tons of profanity and some mild sexual content. I would love to know what the Japanese hosts were saying about this.
And as a special bonus, here's an actual half-hour cable access infomercial, produced by the Beastie Boys and aired nationally, before the release of Hello Nasty in 1998.

NYC Transformer Explosion
Click to view video.CrooksandLiars has raw footage from today's transformer blast in Midtown Manhattan. I heard the blast, but I live so far away that I assumed it was just thunder, as it had rained on and off all morning.
For the record - NO. THIS WAS NOT TERRORISM. Just another example of ConEd's ineptitude. Last summer they deserted Astoria, during a blackout that lasted more than a week. Last month, parts of Manhattan were blacked out, including Mayor Bloomberg's neighborhood. And back in the summer of '98 or '99, all the manhole covers down 14th street (a major crosstown thoroughfare that leads directly to the front door of the ConEd plant in Manhattan) blew clear off. So, today's event, while tragic, is nothing new.

RJD2 - "Work It Out"
Artist Bill Shannon was born with a degenerative hip condition, but has developed a way to express himself through dance. Here he performs - with crutches! - on the streets of downtown New York, in one continuous shot, for RJD2's latest video. Amazing.
