Darth Vader Is Coming to America

Some wonderfully demented person on the internet has dubbed the voice of James Earl Jones's character from the film Coming to America, into these clips from the original Star Wars movie.

Aha!!

Monty Python's Lovely Coconuts

For the film The Holy Grail, Monty Python famously used coconut shells to simulate equine motion. In this clip from the film, two characters try to figure out how King Arthur managed to find a coconut in a temperate zone.

And, in this clip from The Holy Grail DVD, Michael Palin shows you how to make your own.

Hardball got a copy of the audio from Senator Larry Craig's arrest by an undercover police officer in the men's room of the Minneapolis airport.

So freaking beautiful...

American Watercolor Movement

There's this band out of Jersey City that I absolutely love, called American Watercolor Movement. Knuckles and I first spotted them a number of years ago on the Coney Island boardwalk, after the Mermaid Parade. We were hooked after half a song. I cannot understand how this band is not totally famous yet...

This is their video for a song called "Pour Les Auditeurs".

This is a dinky little video I made a bunch of years ago for a videoblog I did back in the days before YouTube. I can't believe it's even still online. Anyway, this is for the song "I Paparazzi", live at Coney Island Astroland, featuring dancing sea creatures and a ride on the Wonder Wheel. The band sounds so great live...

"Article II", a sweet song from their latest album.

And, lastly, here's a link to their song "Dresden". It's been around for a while, but it's by far my favorite and it's so damn fabulous, it DESERVES a video. I dare you not to love it.

There's more songs and videos available on their MySpace page.

Kurt Vonnegut - "Breakfast of Champions"

To honor the passing of author Kurt Vonnegut, the 92nd Street Y has posted an audio recording of the first public reading of his classic novel "Breakfast of Champions". It was recorded on May 4th, 1970, three years before the book was published. You can download the podcast or listen right on the site. The clip is just under 12 minutes long. This is a wonderful treat. Don't miss it.

UPDATE: PBS is hosting video of an interview Kurt Vonnegut did with David Brancaccio on NOW, in 2005. It's a fabulous and funny conversation about politics, religion, war and history. Vonnegut at his best. Definitely worth watching.

Bjork - "Earth Intruders"

The new Bjork album "Volta" will hit stores on May 7th. But as of today, you can listen to the first single "Earth Intruders" online. Fader Magazine has it embedded on their site, alongside a rather disparaging review. Can't say I agree with them. Give a listen and judge for yourself. The track was produced by Timbaland.

Green Eggs and Ham

Original Dr. Seuss cartoon of "Green Eggs and Ham".

The refrains from the chorus alone, in this original animation, take the classic story to a whole new level of strangeness. But, for some reason, I have always enjoyed Jesse Jackson's version from Saturday Night Live so much more.

Sorry for the low quality video, but it's all that's available. Can't stand it? Try listening to the audio file. [Warning: Link leads directly to mp3 file.]
