R.I.P. Luciano Pavarotti

Luciano Pavarotti, the greatest opera singer of all time, has passed away at the age of 71. Below are just a few of his most memorable performances.

Here he sings Schubert's "Ave Maria", with a full orchestra and choir, conducted by Zubin Mehta.

This is a clip from the documentary Pavarotti: The Last Tenor, featuring his debut performance at La Scala, as Rodolfo in La Boheme.

An intimate performance, from the DVD Pavarotti and the Italian Tenor, of "O del Mio Amato Ben" by Donaudy, Leone Maggiera on piano.

Pavarotti glows in this performance of "Torna a Surriento", at the Royal Gala Concert with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in Albert Hall, on April 13th, 1982.

From the 1984 Bari Recital, the definitive operatic aria "O sole mio".

Rigoletto's "Questo o Quella" from the 1988 documentary on Pavarotti's trip to China, Distant Harmony.

A moving performance of "E Lucevan le Stelle", from Puccini's Tosca.

This is Pavarotti in Pagliacci, the role he was born to play, performing "Vesti La Giubba".

And, because it was his signature song, and no one could ever hope to sing it as beautifully, Puccini's "Nessun Dorma", performed live in Paris in 1998.

Beverly Sills & Danny Kaye - Opera Parody

Beverly Sills and Danny Kaye perform a duet live on stage at the Metropolitan Opera House, in 1975, as part of The CBS Festival of Lively Arts for Young People: Danny Kaye's Look-In at the Metropolitan Opera. This was a program to introduce children to the joys of the classical arts. (Why don't we have shows like this now??)

R.I.P. Beverly Sills.
