Violent Crack Down on Burmese Protests
The BBC World News report on the latest developments on the protests in Burma. The country's military leadership has turned its guns on the people.
According to a report on yesterday's Rachel Maddow radio show, similar events occurred 19 years ago when the people rose up against the government. Back then, the military disguised themselves as protesters and acted out violently, in order to legitimize a military backlash. Meanwhile, Bush has been trying to stick his nose into the situation, because - ahem! - Burma has oil...

Air America's Rachel Maddow stopped by Countdown to discuss the consequences of the protester manual.
It has been revealed this week that the Bush administration created and used a detailed manual to deal with protesters at presidential rallies and public events. It included guidelines on screening crowds, encouraging chants to drown out dissent and even cordoning off protesters into designated areas, out of sight of the president and the media.
